Narberth Jazz Newsletter August 2021

Hello and welcome to all our Jazz friends,
Our launch event at Lampeter House last month was blessed with a lovely sunshine
day so that Moonshine Boulevard and Afternoon in Paris were perfectly in tune with
the day. They were so glad to be playing for an appreciative audience and we were
able to meet up with friends to enjoy the music. We owe a huge thank you to all our
core group and helpers who worked so hard to make it happen, and to our hosts who
graciously helped us to be there. You can also see some pictures from the day on our
Facebook page.

We can now go forward with our ambitious programme of events with confidence that
members and friends will support our plan to bring a Jazz flavour to the next season in
Narberth. Two new members have joined the NJ team, Kenny Lewis and Rosemary his
partner, who are going to design our artwork and join in with the organising. With their
help we believe we can get on with plans to widen the scope of our activities, create
and tutor a local youth band and take our music into care homes for the elderly.

Our next gig is in back in our natural home, The Plas Hotel Narberth.
The Keith Marshall Band ( aka “Swing Machine”) featuring singer SARAH BENBOW
The Keith Marshall Band is a great jazz and swing, nine piece outfit -with star
vocalist Sarah Benbow,- it is a “little big band” with a sound to match, and in
the style of the great big bands, in new arrangements by Keith Marshall.
So great vocalist and some of Wales’ most creative and versatile musicians
will be playing that Swing stuff for us at The Plas Hotel Narberth on Thursday 19th. August. Doors open 7.30pm

In September the main event will be our presentation in partnership
with Haverhub – the newly opened arts centre in Haverfordwest
https://haverhub.org.uk/ , with the contemporary Welsh group DUSKI on Friday
September 24th. Duski use elements of modern art rock music to make a beautiful
noise. You can hear them here https://duskimusic.co.uk They will be supported by DJ
Uncle Funk who is a jazz-funk and reggae specialist with a vast collection of vintage
music on vinyl for dancing and listening.
We do not want to leave our local friends in Narberth area without a Narberth Jazz
event in September so we have arranged an evening to invite everyone on our mail
list and beyond to get a taste for the music at a casual session on Thursday 9th.
September at the Plas Hotel. Door charge is just £5 and a donation for members, so you can join up on the night. There will be live music from our pals The Firebyrd Trio
and friends. We also invite patrons to bring along CD’s and play a favourite track so
we can all hear and enjoy it.
That’s all for now – keep swinging
