A thrilling live celebration of Miles Davis’s music.
The Plas Hotel in Narberth hosted 7Steps on Thursday 17 September 2026 for an evening devoted to the music of Miles Davis. Led by trumpeter Tomos Williams, the quintet also featured Joe Northwood on tenor saxophone, Dave Jones on piano, Aidan Thorne on bass and Mark O’Connor on drums.
The programme offered a compact journey through Davis’s changing musical language, balancing standards and modal jazz with material from his later electric period. Familiar pieces such as Milestones, All Blues and So What sat alongside less frequently heard selections including Fran Dance, Masqualero and Joshua.
The acoustic side of the repertoire was represented by If I Were a Bell, Oleo and Seven Steps to Heaven, while Miles Runs the Voodoo Down brought the set into Davis’s electric era. Together, the choices showed the breadth of a catalogue that continued to evolve across several decades.
Rather than concentrating on a single period, 7Steps presented the music as a connected body of work. The result was a clearly structured tribute that placed well-known themes beside deeper cuts and gave the audience a broad view of Davis’s enduring musical legacy.
